Sometimes your sales landing page receives orders from spammers.
Some place orders just to test your landing page funnel out of curiosity.
Others submit fake orders without any intention of buying.
A few times you can ignore it, but if the spam orders happen more than twice or even dozens of times every day.
That becomes very disruptive.
It must be prevented!
In Scalev, you can prevent these spam orders by configuring additional validation in your store.
Enable the following two Order Validation features:
-
Additional Order Form Validation
-
Spam Filter
Here’s how:
In your Scalev dashboard, go to Stores → Your Store → Then check the right side for a widget named Order Validation
Click the Enable Additional Validation on Order Form? dropdown.
Select Yes, enable additional validation.
Then under Spam Filter, click Enable Spam Filter in this Store?
Select Yes, enable spam filter
Order Validation settings explained
Minimum Character Count for Name
The minimum number of characters in the name field on the checkout form that can pass through as an order, for example 3 characters.
If the name has fewer than 3 characters, the order will not go through.
Examples of spam names: Aq, Km, Bp.
Minimum Character Count for Address
The minimum number of characters in the address field on the checkout form that can pass through as an order, for example 7 characters.
If the buyer’s address has fewer than 7 characters, the order will not go through.
Maximum Orders per Phone Number per Hour
The maximum number of orders a buyer can create per phone number within one hour.
For example, 1 order.
The buyer can check out with 1 order per hour per phone number; the second attempt will not go through.
If the same buyer checks out again using a different phone number, the order will go through subject to the per-phone-number limit above.
Maximum Orders per IP Address per Hour
The maximum number of orders a buyer can create per IP address within one hour.
For example, 1 order.
The buyer can check out with 1 order per hour from the same IP address; the second attempt will not go through.
If the same buyer checks out again from another device with a different IP connection, the order will go through subject to the per-IP-address limit above.
Spam Filter settings explained
The Scalev spam filter works in two main ways:
1. IP Address Check
If someone places an order from an address already on the blacklist (a list of IPs frequently used for spam), the order is automatically flagged as suspicious and added to the blacklist.
You can check the blacklisted IPs caught as spam on the “Suppression IP List” page.
2. AI-powered Name, Phone Number, and Email Check
The Scalev system also reviews the customer’s name, phone number, and email.
If anything looks odd or suspicious (such as a random name or an email that doesn’t make sense), it will be flagged as spam.
If it’s confirmed as spam, the IP address is also immediately added to the blacklist.
You can review every order flagged as spam directly in the “Suspicious Order” menu.
That’s how you prevent spam orders by leveraging the additional order validation settings in your Scalev store.
When this validation is active, it should help minimize the volume of spam-flagged orders from trolls who land on your sales landing page.
